Working Below the Surface
Working Below the Surface Seminar Series: Scottish Institute of Human Relations: Edinburgh January - May 2011

Marie is organising this new seminar series, with SIHR, which started on 12 January 2011. The series offers participants an opportunity to think in more depth about the challenges they face at work and to develop their understanding of the psychodynamics of work, organisations and the groups and individuals within them. We will be exploring leading edge thinking about organisational dynamics to enable you to better assess the interconnectedness of your own role and your organisational setting, and to think about developing resilience.

We are grateful to David Armstrong and his colleagues whose book (2004) Working below the Surface: The Emotional Life of Contemporary Organizations, Tavistock Clinic Series, provided a unifying theme first our first WBTS Conference in 2006 and has inspired our subsequent work.

The current seminar series is fully booked - however we are planning a further series to take place later in 2011. To register your interest in this series click here to contact Marie or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Working below the Surface: National Conference: Conflict & Resilience: Scottish Institute of Human Relations: Edinburgh 29 October 2010

Work is of central importance in our lives, yet we often struggle to understand (and survive) the internal politics, the turf wars, the draining battles. Increasingly, it seems that we are subject to conflicting demands, ever more acute in this current recession. Our second “Working below the Surface” national Conference explored the emotional undertow and ‘shadow side’ of organisational life as a source of intelligence into the challenges and dilemmas facing people in organisations.
